Now, men may not realize this, but a large percentage of women in relationships are worried that the men in their lives haven’t got what it takes to lead a family, spiritually, with an equally large number of married women finding that their husbands haven’t or no longer have personal prayer lives. And this can be very unsettling for a woman looking up to her man for spiritual leadership within the home. Indeed, many women are now realizing that the very passionate youth leader they are in love with, the handsome young man in the church who’s organizing and mobilizing youths and holding great meetings, hasn’t got a relationship with the Lord outside of the church.
But this isn’t just about the men. Many women have equally been overtaken by the ministry of “much serving”. But for the man, however, the responsibility of leading the home makes it crucial to spend time at the Master’s feet.
Serving God, of course, has its rewards, and we can sometimes get caught up in these activities, especially when people are being blessed and egging us on that we forget to service our relationship with the Master. However, we need to remember that we are only as effective in public as we are in private, although sometimes, the people’s hunger can move the Lord to act and for miracles to take place despite our failures. But even then, the Lord expects us to develop our faith and the anointing within us for our everyday life if we are to please Him, for, without faith, it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6.
Secondly, it’s in the place of intimacy and fellowship that we become more like Jesus, for we generally become like who we constantly behold or spend time with.
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit- 2Cor3:18 (NIV)

A man’s gift will indeed open doors for him. Still, it’s his character that’ll keep these doors open, a godly character that’s developed as we allow our flesh to be crucified daily in the place of prayer and as we yield to divine instructions. These will determine, to a large extent, how far we’ll go in life, even with the anointing of God upon our lives. Plus, in the place of intimacy, we can discern the changes in our season; in other words, our assignment because assignments sometimes change with the seasons.
Samson was anointed to be a deliverer, but his ministry was cut short, his destiny reduced to grinding corn in prison, all because he defied the “rules” of his calling. This shows that a man can be greatly anointed by God and not fulfil his purpose if he doesn’t pay very close attention to his life.
The tricky bit then is knowing when like Mary, to sit at the Master’s feet, fellowshipping and renewing our strength in a society that encourages much activity as opposed to spending time in the place of prayer, away from the crowd and the buzz of loud music.
That said, we owe it to ourselves to develop the anointing within us and our faith to be effective witnesses for the master, to those around us, and the world at large.
